I thought I would take some time and do some Q&A. Feel free to ask more questions in the comments!
Question: How did you become an author? Answer: Probably in the same way that I became the person that I am today- life experience, a love of books, and a penchant for telling stories. I've always loved telling stories. I wrote my first "book" in the fifth grade. It was an adventure/mystery story inspired by Encyclopedia Brown (anyone out there remember those books?). I even had a friend do illustrations and a cover for me. Someday I need to see if my mom kept that story somewhere. Maybe I can publish it.... I officially started publishing books in May 2012 which means I'm getting really close to my six year anniversary. Eeek. Question: What does E..J. stand for? Answer: Truthfully, nothing. E.J. King is a pen name. Question: How many books have you written? Answer: A lot. In the paranormal/urban fantasy world I've written 14 novels and a couple short stories. But I also write in other genres under other pen names. Under those names, I've probably written a combined 20 novels. Question: How long does it take to write a book? Answer: It really depends. I wish I could be one of those writers that sets a firm timeline and sticks to it. I REALLY wish that was me. But I've found that life always gets in the way of my plans and some stories are just harder to tell than others. I usually write at least one book in a month, but that's across three pen names. Question: What inspires your paranormal stories? Answer: So many things. I love horror movies/books, but only the real horror stuff like from Stephen King. Not into the gory new stuff like the Saw movies. I also like vampire stories that are addicting- Vampire Academy, The Vampire Diaries, Trueblood/Sookie Stackhouse, Buffy... And I LOVE the show Supernatural. Question: What are you working on right now? Answer: Making progress on Surrender to Darkness and the first book in a new series, Beyond the Twilight.
