The future of Dark Souls

You guys... It's 68 in Chicago today! Last Saturday I walked outside to snow and ice. Crazy.

Anyway. I thought it would be good to update you all on what the plan is for the Dark Souls series. I know a lot of you have been reading along since the very beginning, and that makes you my favorite people ever. I've just released the fourteenth installment of Dark Souls, almost twenty months after the first story was publish. I average about one installment every six weeks. The initial design of the story was to write it like a television series, very much imitating the "monster of the week" style. You probably noticed that each installment had it's own storyline while also advancing the broader storyline of Kaylie battling her evil father.

I personally loved writing the stories this way. It allowed me to really develop the Hunter world and the supernatural characters within it. It also gave us a lot of opportunity to really connect with the main characters while introducing plenty of supporting characters. I think a lot of readers enjoyed this, too. But I also didn't want to keep the big storyline running indefinitely. I think we all need a little closure.

Which bring us to the news. Saved Souls (#14) is the last part of the Benton storyline. You will have closure! If you want to stop the series now, I think you'll be able to walk away feeling entertained and satisfied.

For those of you that can't get enough of Kaylie, Rafe, and Ethan- fear not! I actually have a ton more stories in my head for our friends that must be told. So going forward, I will be releasing novel-length stories (think the equivalent of three of the installments in length.) Each of these will have smaller subplots throughout, while also addressing a larger storyline. My release cadence will likely change some due to the increased length of each book, but I'm still hoping to target every 8-10 weeks.

I hope people like this approach. The one piece of feedback I sometimes heard was that people wanted each installment to be a little longer. That's why I eventually released novel-length bundles of the installment. I realize that following such a long series is an investment of both time and money, and I think this new approach will benefit the fans of the series.

Okay. This was a long post. The last thing I wanted to say is: THANK YOU. Every single one of you. I love telling stories. I love sharing those stories. And nothing makes me happier than the nice comments you send my way, the amazing reviews you take the time to write, and the fact that you spend your time and money on my work means the world to me.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend! Let me know in the comments what you think about the story continuing after Saved Souls.

Hello! I have followed all 14 of these books and check every so often to see if the novels have been released yet as I would love to read more about these characters. I saw that this post was published in April and it's currently Halloween. I was looking for an update on when these will be released. I keep searching on my Kindle and this website but I haven't found anything yet for this series since April. Any reply or an update to your readers would be much appreciated! :)
